MEET THE VISITORS
Southern U enters Thursday's game with a 2-3 record after two consecutive wins over Northwestern State and LSU-Shreveport. So far, the Beavs and Jags share a common opponent in Iowa, which knocked off both teams. Southern ranks third in the nation and first in the SWAC in three-point percentage (41.7%) while ranking second in its league with 10 steals per game.
DOMINATING DEFENSE
The Beavers have been known for their lockdown D under Scott Rueck. Oregon State has allowed 58.7 points per game over the course of his tenure and has held opponents under 65 points in 70% of its games. The Beavs are 224-50 (.818) when holding the opponent to 65 points or fewer and 178-29 (.852) when holding opponents under 60 in the Rueck Era.
SHE'S THE MANNEN
Noelle Mannen transferred to OSU four years ago and walked on after not playing basketball for a year at San Francisco. Since then, she's become an important on and off-court leader for the Beavs, earning a scholarship before last season and getting her first start against Hawai'i. So far in 2022, Mannen is second on the team in plus-minus as OSU is +50 with her on the floor.
FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
Scott Rueck and company reeled in the best recruiting class in school history to bolster the Beavs in 2022-23 and beyond. McDonald's All-Americans Timea Gardiner (espnW No. 6) and Raegan Beers (espnW No. 10) headline a class that ESPN ranked third nationally. Four-star sharpshooters Adlee Blacklock and Lily Hansford augment the 2022 class while late-signee Martha Pietsch brings a strong international pedigree after playing on the German U-20 team.
