Beavers Fall to Buffs
October 06, 2022 | Women's Soccer
BOULDER, Colo. – Two unanswered goals by Maddie Tetz and McKenna Martinez were not enough to bring Oregon State back for a result against Colorado. Oregon State dropped their Pac-12 road opener by a 3-2 margin to the Buffaloes at Prentup Field on Thursday afternoon.
The hosts (7-3-3, 1-2-1 Pac-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the first 45 when they found the back of the net twice in an eight-minute stretch. A 50th minute strike by the Buffs gave them their biggest lead, but the Beavers (4-6-2, 0-4-0 Pac-12) did not back down
.
On an attack, Valerie Tobias set up Tetz for her first goal of the season in the 57th minute to show that Oregon State had signs of life. Following a Colorado foul inside the 18-yard box, OSU was then awarded a penalty kick that Martinez buried in the top-left of the frame with 10 to play. Showing more signs of life, the Beavers fought for at least a draw.
With some newfound momentum, Oregon State battled for a chance to level the game, but a late shot went just to the outside of the goal.
Hailey Coll stopped four shots in 90 minutes played on the afternoon. Amber Jackson paced the Beaver offense with three shots, with two of them being on goal. Tobias' helper on Tetz was OSU's sole assist. Martinez's goal was her seventh of the season and first in league play.
Oregon State will continue its road trip with a match versus Utah on Sunday. Kickoff from Ute Field is set for noon PT.
