
Beavers Open Season at Portland State Viking Rust Buster

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State University women's cross country team kicks off its season on Friday at Portland State's Viking Rust Buster, held at Westmoreland Park in Portland, Ore. The women's 4K is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Fourteen Beavers will represent Oregon State at the meet.Â
The Beavers enter the season ranked 22nd in the USTFCCCAÂ National Coaches' Preseason Poll.Â

Last Season
Oregon State saw action in three meets during the 2020-21 season which was pushed to the spring due to the COVID19 pandemic. At the Oregon XC Open on Feb. 5 in Eugene, Ore., the Beavers posted 48 points and finished third in the team standings. Kaylee Mitchell placed second after clocking a time of 16:51.2 and Meagen Lowe finished tenth, clocking a time of 17:14.7.Â

On Mar. 5, the Beavers finished fourth with 100 points at the Pac-12 Cross Country Championship in University Park, Wash., posting their best finish at the in program history. Mitchell set the pace for the Beavers, coming in seventh with a time of 19:39.4. Batya Beard was the next Beaver across the finish line, placing 19th with a time of 20:06.8.Â

The Beavers capped the season with a 16th-place team finish at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla. with 375 points, the best finish at the championship in program history. Mitchell and Beard earned All-American honors, placing in the top-40. Clocking a time of 20:38.5, Mitchell placed20th, marking the highest individual finish in program history. Beard came in 37th, stopping the clock at 20:57.7.Â
