No. 2 UCLA Takes Game Two
April 17, 2021 | Softball
LOS ANGELES - The Oregon State softball team was able to get the bat on the ball for a couple of connections but No. 2 UCLA took game two, Saturday afternoon.
The Bruins quickly took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first but the Beavers stopped a higher lead notching three outs with two on base.
Freshman Grace Messmer made the first connection for the Beavers but she was unable to get on base in the second inning.
Sophomore Ashton Zeiher made it to first with a fielding error from a strong connection to second base. Oregon State was unable to take advantage of the runner on base in the third inning.
In both the second and third innings, OSU left at least one Bruin on base to stop UCLA from advancing their lead. In the third, the Beavers held off a bases-loaded situation.
Both teams saw three straight outs in the fourth inning.
Messmer opened the fifth with the Beavers' first hit of the weekend - a double to center field. UCLA followed with three outs to leave her on base.
The Bruins scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to advance their lead.
Oregon State's junior Missy Nunes was hit by a pitch to get on base in the sixth inning but the Bruins were able to hold on to their shutout.
The Beavers will face No. 2 UCLA once more on Sunday (Apr. 18) at 12 p.m.
