Beavers Tied For Fifth Place Through 18 Holes At Stanford

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Ellie Slama fired a 1-under 70 to lead the Oregon State women's golf team in the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Friday.
The Beavers opened the three-day tourney with a 4-over 288 at the par-71, 6,269-yard Stanford Golf Course and are tied for fifth place in the 17-team field.
Stanford took advantage of playing on its home course, shooting an 11-under 273 that has the Cardinal in first place. Arizona State and USC are tied for second with a 2-under 282 and San Jose State is in fourth with a 1-under 283.
Rival Oregon is tied with the Beavers for fifth place.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday with tee times off the first and 10th holes. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Sama was even-par going out and took a bogey on 10 before catching fire with three straight birdies on the par-3, 171-yard 13th, the par-4, 361-yard 14th and the par-5, 503-yard 15th holes. She had a bogey on 18 but the 1-under 71 has her in a tie for 1th place and in good position heading into the weekend.
Kelsey Webster, a transfer from the University of Colorado, continued her strong play with an even-par 71. She had three birdies on the front nine and added another on the 10th hole to finish with four in the round. The birdies were on the par-5, 501-yard first, the par-4, 396-yard fifth, par-5, 490-yard seventh and the par-4, 383-yard 10th holes.
Redshirt freshman Danique Stokmans also dropped in three birdies on the opening nine that helped her finish with a solid 1-over 72. Her birdies came on the par-4, 423-yard second, par-5, 490-yard seventh and the par-4, 355-yard ninth holes.
Chayse Gomez is competing with the team for the first time in the 2021-22 season was 4 over through the first five holes but remained calm and played even golf the rest of the way to finish with a 4-over 75. She had birdies on the par-4, 390-yard sixth, the par-5, 477-yard 12th and the par-3, 171-yard 14th holes.

Issy Taylor dropped in one birdie -- on the par-3, 171-yard 14th hole -- and finished the day with a 9-over 80.
Rose Zhang of Stanford holds the individual lead by three strokes over four golfers after carding a 6-under 65.
