Corvallis – With the 2020 season cut short, Oregon State softball has been able to reflect on some of the accomplishments of our alumni and previous teams.
Join us in looking back at what had happened this past week in history from May 17-23.
May 17
In 2002, Oregon State shutout Notre Dame, 2-0, at the Iowa City Regional for the 40th win on the season. This was the team's fourth consecutive 40-win campaign.
Key moments:
Erin Guzy became the first Beaver to record 20 putouts in a single game doing so against Tulsa in 2012. This has only happened one other time in 2018.
May 19
Oregon State had a big day in 2018 picking up wins over Middle Tennessee and Wisconsin to make a comeback to the championship game of the Tuscaloosa Regional.
Key moments:
Oregon State won the second-of-three straight victories in the Corvallis Regional in 2006 after they defeated No. 19 Baylor. OSU started the weekend defeating Nevada on the 19th and then beat Baylor again on the 21st to make the first Super Regional appearance in program history. The Beavers battled through regionals and supers that season to make the first Women's College World Series appearance in program history.
May 21
In 2005, Brianne McGowan set the OSU Single Game Record for most strikeouts during a regulation game as the Beavers defeated Wisconsin, 8-2.
May 22
After a 24-hour rain delay in 2004, Oregon State earned a 4-0 upset victory against No. 11 Tennessee at the Ann Arbor Regional.
Key moments:
Oregon State earned a berth in the NCAA Regional Championship game for the second consecutive season after knocking off Illinois-Chicago, 6-5. The Beavers then went on to defeat top-ranked Michigan, 1-0, to push the Ann Arbor Regional to a fourth day.

May 17
In 2002, Oregon State shutout Notre Dame, 2-0, at the Iowa City Regional for the 40th win on the season. This was the team's fourth consecutive 40-win campaign.
Key moments:
- Senior Crystal Draper pitched the full 7.0 innings with six strikeouts to lead OSU to the win and improve to 14-8 on the season.
- The team outhit the Fighting Irish 6-4 led by junior Steph Adams going a perfect 3-for-3. Brynnen Guthrie followed with two hits of her own with one from Michelle Chariton.
- Clare Burnum and Chariton were the two players that scored goals for the Beavers.
- This win followed a 1-0 for Oregon State over Wisconsin on the 16th.

May 19
Oregon State had a big day in 2018 picking up wins over Middle Tennessee and Wisconsin to make a comeback to the championship game of the Tuscaloosa Regional.
Key moments:
- OSU took game one against Middle Tennessee, 4-0. The Beavers took the lead in the first inning, added another run in the third before sealing the win in the seventh win two more runs scored.
- Shelby Weeks led OSU going 3-for-3 from the plate and scored three runs. McKenna Arriola followed with two hits and one run scored.
- Other Beavers that added hits: Alysha Everett, Jessica Garcia, Hope Brandner and Camryn Ybarra.
- Meehra Nelson earned the win in the circle with three strikeouts.
- OSU continued the momentum in the second game against Wisconsin pulling off a 5-1 win. The Beavers started scoring in the second inning, added three more in the third and capped things off with one run in the fifth.
- Garcia and Brandner led the Beavers offensively with two hits apiece. Other hits came from Weeks, Ybarra, Missy Nunes and Michelle Sass.
- Mariah Mazon picked up the win in the circle pitching 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts.

May 21

- Action started on Friday, May 21st. The Beavers took the lead in the third inning scoring two and didn't bother to look back as OSU's defensive held strong.
- Oregon State turned two double plays during the game on Friday night before action was cut short after the top of the sixth inning with OSU holding a 2-0 lead.
- When action resumed on Saturday, Monica Hoffman continued her domination in the circle for the Beavers as she struck out the first Tennessee batter she faced.
- OSU's offense helped put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh scoring two more runs to make the final margin 4-0.
- Mia Longfellow led the team with two hits and two runs scored. Vanessa Iapala, Kelly Petersen, Brianne McGowan, Ingrid Lochelt and Alana Mendoza also added hits. Iapala and Adrienne Alo scored the other two runs.
- Hoffman pitched 7.0 innings with five strikeouts to improve to 21-16 on the season.

- Kelly Petersen led the charge against Illinois-Chicago going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Adrienne Alo followed going 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
- Other hits came from: Mia Longfellow, Lisa Allen, Sherina Galvan, Ingrid Lochelt and Alana Mendoza.
- Monica Hoffman pitched 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts before being replaced by Brianne McGowan. McGowan pitched 0.2 innings with one strikeout before Ta'Tyana McElroy finished the game with 0.2 innings and one strikeout.
- The Beavers held a 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth before Illinois-Chicago got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. OSU scored again in the fifth but Illinois-Chicago took a 5-3 lead following the fifth inning. Oregon State came out with a vengeance in the top of the sixth to score three runs and seal the victory.
- Against Michigan, Vanessa Iapala blasted a seventh inning, two-out, walk-off home run to force an additional championship game the following day. This also marked the first win for Oregon State over the Wolverines.
- The game shaped up to be a pitcher's duel from the start between Monica Hoffman and Michigan's Jennie Ritter. Hoffman earned the complete-game victory for her 22nd of the year and six strikeouts.
- Allen was the only Beaver besides Iapala to record a hit.
