March 09, 2020 | Women's Golf
FAIRFAX, Calif. – The Oregon State women's golf team is tied for third place after a solid 36 holes of competition at the Meadow Club Invitational on Monday.
The Beavers shot an 11-over 291-296--587 at the par-72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club and are tied for third with San Francisco in the 13-team field.
Washington State leads with a 6-over 293-289--582 and California is second with a 7-over 294-289--583.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"If we can be in more control of our games than we were today, tomorrow will be successful," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We have to continue to do that and the results will take care of themselves. "Mari and Ellie were in control today and it shows with their scores."
Two Oregon State golfers are in the top 10, led by Mari Nishiura who posted a 1-under 71-72--143 that has her in seventh place. The 1-under 71 in the opening round is the second sub-par score in her senior season and the seventh overall in her three-year Beaver career.
Ellie Slama is tied for eighth place after carding a 1-over 70-75--145 that included three birdies in the first round and two in the second. She has 11 top-10 finishes in her career, including an Oregon State single-season record seven last year as a sophomore.
Freshman Issy Taylor is tied for 20th place with a 5-over 74-75--149 and Amanda Minni is a stroke back and tied for 23rd with a 6-over 76-74--150. Nicole Schroeder finished with a 10-over 78-76--154 and is tied for 47th place.
Six other golfers in the 72-player besides Nishiura concluded the 36-hole day in red figures, led by Katherine Zhu of California with a 4-under 71-69--140.
