Last Game
Christian Chamberlain and four Oregon State relievers combined to one-hit UC Santa Barbara but the Beavers dropped their 2020 home opener to the Gauchos, 6-0, Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. Chamberlain struck out 10 as he, Will Frisch, Jack Washburn, Reid Sebby and Kai Murphy combined for 14 on the night. However, the staff also combined to walk nine and the Beavers committed four errors. Only two of Oregon State's six runs allowed were earned.
Pfennigs On The Hill
Sophomore Jake Pfennigs is slated to make his fourth start of the season on Saturday. The righty is making his 11th career appearance at Goss Stadium, and his second start. He is also 3-2 all-time in non-conference games, in which he has made 14 appearances and six starts.
McMahan Extends
Kyler McMahan's ninth-inning double Friday extended the junior's hit streak to five games, where he is 11-for-19 (.579). He has three walks, three runs batted in and a double over the streak. McMahan has reached base safely in all 12 of the Beavers' games this season.
Two Or Eight?
Jake Dukart batted in the sixth spot of the lineup Friday, and has already appeared in seven different spots of the lineup in just the first 12 games of 2020. He has yet to bat in the second or eighth spots of the lineup.
A Bit Of A Reversal
Oregon State came into the series having put a leadoff batter on base 43 times in 97 opportunities. That number, however, stayed as is after Friday's loss; the Beavers did not put a leadoff batter on base. Conversely, Oregon State's opponents have reached on 34-of-104 opportunities, or 32.6 percent. UCSB was able to open an inning with a baserunner three times in the opener.
Last Three For Frisch
Will Frisch worked two scoreless innings on Friday. Over his last three outings, the freshman has eight strikeouts in six innings. He has allowed just two hits and two runs – one earned – with four walks over that stretch.
Singles
• Oregon State's streak of 16 consecutive wins in home openers was snapped with Friday's loss.
