Pivec Sets Rebounding Record, Beavers Fall to Stanford
March 06, 2020 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Senior Mikayla Pivec set the Oregon State record for career rebounds, but the No. 14 Beavers fell to No. 7 Stanford 68-57 Friday evening in the Pac-12 Tournament Quarterfinals.
Â
"I'm really proud of our team for battling the way they did tonight," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "They really showed the heart that they have – this is a special group. You have to give Stanford a lot of credit. I loved the tenacity we played with in the second half, it really speaks to the character of this team."
Â
Pivec finished the night with 1,033 career rebounds, passing Ruth Hamblin's previous mark of 1,027. The guard ended the evening with 10 points and six rebounds.
Â
"This is an unbelievable accomplish for Mikayla," Rueck said. "It's almost an accomplishment that defies logic, but it isn't if you know Mik. She has tremendous heart, and how cool is it that she is the top of the list in rebounding."
Â
Destiny Slocum scored 12 points, as she eclipsed 1,000 points in her two seasons with the Beavers. Aleah Goodman tallied 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
Â
Maddie Washington finished with nine points, while Taylor Jones scored seven.
Â
Stanford got off to a hot start, taking a 25-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Oregon State scored the final four points of the second quarter to head to the break down 38-25.
Â
The Beavers got back within single-digits early in the third quarter, but the Cardinal headed to the fourth in front 57-40. Oregon State used an 8-0 run to get within 12 with just under eight minutes to play. The Beavers cut the edge to eight in the closing minutes, but were unable to get any closer, as Stanford took the win by 11.
Â
The Beavers will now await the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on March 16.
