
Softball History: March 22-28

Corvallis – The 2020 Oregon State softball season may be over, but it allows for the program to reflect on some of the previous successes that have helped build the groundwork for where the program is today. Throughout the remainder of what would have been the regular season, OSU will look back on some key performances that happened on that day in history.
To start things off, the Beavers look back on the days of March 22-28:
March 22
In 2004, No. 18 ranked Oregon State took two from Missouri to improve to 28-8 on the season and move to a five-game win streak. The Beavers run-ruled the Tigers, 11-1, in the five innings during the first game before taking the second game, 3-1.
Key moments:
In 2015, the Beavers completed the sweep of Stanford with a 5-3 victory on the 23rd of March. OSU opened the series on the 21st with a 10-0 run-rule win in five innings before taking game two on the 22nd, 7-6, in eight innings.
Key moments:
No. 20 Oregon State swept UC Riverside in a double-header matchup in 2003. OSU captured the first game in a run-rule victory, 11-1, after scoring five runs in the sixth inning. The Beavers claimed a 7-1 victory in the second game.
Key moments:
No. 16 Oregon State swept its home-opening doubleheader against BYU to set – at the time – a record for most consecutive victories for the program at 13 back in 2005. OSU continued the win streak into April.
Key moments:
Lea Cavestany became the fourth Beaver to hit two triples in a game. She recorded the triples in OSU's 5-3 victory over Seattle in 2010 joining Cambria Miranda (2007), Clare Burnum (2002) and Andrea Talcott (1993).
March 27
Melinda Farm became the first Beaver softball player to record a no-hitter. Farm picked up a 17-2 win over Yuba City College in 1978.
March 28
Audrey Roderfeld tallied her 15th career home run – her seventh of the season – to move into the Top 10 on the career home run list as a sophomore in 2009. Roderfeld went on to finish with 38-career homers and sits third on the list to this day.

March 22

Key moments:
- In the first game, Kelly Petersen went 4-for-7 on the day, including a 3-for-4, two-RBI, two-run performance in game one.
- The Beavers tallied eight runs in the second inning to make it a 9-0 game.
- Sherina Galvan hit a two-RBI triple before Lisa Allen delivered a two-run homer in the next at-bat.
- Allen went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
- Ta'Tyana McElroy picked up the win to improve to 9-1 on the season.
- In the second game, OSU capitalized scored all three in the first inning. Peterson drove in Mia Longfellow before her and Adrianne Alo scored on passed balls.
- Brianne McGowan improved to 5-2 from the circle and Monica Hoffman picked up her fifth save on the season.

Key moments:
- Oregon State scored one run in the bottom of the first inning before Stanford answered with three runs in the second. OSU made the comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring four runs to win the game.
- Sammi Noland led OSU going 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored one run.
- Dani Gilmore went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
- CJ Chirichigno brought in two runners off one hit.
- Beverly Miller improved to 14-6 in the circle after picking up the win.

Key moments:
- Kelly Petersen and Shelly Prochaska led the Beavers offensively, each with a combined 4-for-7.
- Petersen had an RBI and scored three runs.
- Prochaska contributed two RBI, scored three runs and a double.
- Adrienne Alo was 3-for-7 with two RBI and a run scored.
- Monica Hoffman picked up both victories in the circle after allowing only one run in 11 innings. She struck out 11 batters and walked one to improve her record at the time to 16-6.

Key moments:
- The Beavers earned a 5-1 victory in the opening game and then rallied for a 4-3 win in a six-inning contest that was shortened due to darkness.
- OSU broke the first game open in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs on six hits that began with Sherina Galvan and Alana Mendoza hitting back-to-back singles before Maggie DeWall singled through the left side to put OSU on the board.
- Brianne McGowan hit a single to left to score two more followed by Cambria Miranda and Kelly Petersen hit RBI singles.
- DeWall and Miranda each went 2-for-3 from the plate.
- In game two, BYU took a 2-0 lead early. Miranda ripped her fourth-home run of the season with a shot over the center-field fence to make it 2-1 following the second inning.
- BYU added another run that Ingrid Lochelt answered with a solo homer to make it 3-2 after four.
- McGowan hit a RBI single off the top of the fence in the fifth to level the field before Miranda came up with her fourth hit of the day to get on base for Petersen to hit a two-out RBI to left field for the game-winner.
