No. 22 Beavers Take Second in Tri-Meet, Fall Short of No. 9 LSU
February 08, 2020 | Women's Gymnastics
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 22 Oregon State gymnastics team made a late rally before finishing to No. 9 LSU in a tri-meet at Gill Coliseum, Saturday morning. The Beavers continued a hot streak reaching the 196-point mark for the third straight meet.
The Beavers' (196.700) closed the gap on the Tigers (196.800) in the final two rotations to just one-tenth of a point and defeated Arizona State (195.600) to remain unscathed in Pac-12 Conference competition. OSU's record moved to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Maela Lazaro won the balance beam event title with a 9.925 while Isis Lowery and Kaitlyn Yanish added scores of 9.925 to tie for top honors on the floor exercise.
"I'm proud of the way this team finished today," acting head coach Michael Chaplin said. "We overcame a couple rough spots, put those behind us and moved on and picked each other up. I think one of the secrets to success with this team is that they've learned they get their energy from their teammates. Here in Gill, with a great crowd like today, they are feed off of that energy as well, but really they can just feed each other."
Oregon State fell behind early in the meet posting a 48.850 out of the gate on the vault. Lacy Dagen tied her career-best with a 9.850 to lead the Beavers. Sabrina Gill, who entered the vault lineup for the first time since the 2018 NCAA Regionals, made a splash in the middle of the lineup adding a 9.80 and Kaitlyn Yanish scored 9.775.

Halli Briscoe added a 9.825 routine to help push the Beavers past the Sun Devils into second.
Sitting in second at the halfway point with a score of 97.875, just .075 ahead of ASU and trailing LSU by .650, the Beavers moved to the balance beam where they were on fire last week. Maela Lazaro tied her season-high with a 9.925 to win the event title and the Dagen sisters, Lacy and Madi, each notched scores of 9.90 to lead an OSU rally. Freshman Jenna Domingo added a career-high 9.875.
OSU had trimmed the LSU lead to 147.425-147.250 heading into the final rotation. The Beavers attacked the floor exercise from the start with Kristina Peterson and Kayla Bird each posting career-best scores of 9.850. Savanna Force marked 9.90 for the second straight week helping to set up the tail end of the Beavers' floor rotation.
