Christian Chamberlain struck out a career-best 12 but Oregon State was unable to hold on to a late lead in a 6-2 loss to Mississippi State Friday afternoon in Starkville. Kyler McMahan went 2-for-4 with a double and a run and Andy Armstrong and Troy Claunch each drove in runs. The Beavers took the lead on Armstrong's single in the fourth and went up 2-0 when Claunch singled in the eighth. The Bulldogs, however, scored six in the eighth for the win.
Lineup Look
Ryan Ober got the nod at designated hitter for the Beavers Friday, becoming the fourth player in that spot of the lineup this season. Matthew Gretler, meanwhile, picked up his first start of the season, manning third base and batting ninth. Andy Armstrong is the lone Beaver to bat in the same spot of the lineup in all five games this season, at No. 8.
Against The SEC
Oregon State is taking on an SEC school for the first time since 2018 when going 6-1 combined against LSU, Mississippi State and Arkansas a year after going 3-2 versus Vanderbilt and LSU. The Beavers, however, are meeting an SEC school in the regular season for the first time since taking 2-of-3 from Tennessee in 2010 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. OSU last traveled to an SEC school in 2012 when visiting LSU for an NCAA Regional.
McGarry Pushes Ahead To Eight
Alex McGarry went 1-for-4 Friday and extended his hit streak to eight games, dating back to the 2019 season. He is 11-for-32 (.344) with four doubles, a home run and five runs batted in.

Friday's starter Chrstian Chamberlain has 17 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings this season. The junior has held opponents to three hits and an unearned run over two starts.
