
Mazon Named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State junior Mariah Mazon was named the Pac-12 Softball Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Tuesday.
Mazon (Tulare, Calif.) led the Beavers in the circle last weekend at the Houston Classic with victories over Dayton and Houston. The junior started the weekend with a 6-2 victory over Dayton on Friday morning. She pitched a complete game of 7.0 innings with a new career-high 12 batters struck out that included at least two strikeouts in four-of-the-six innings and at least one strikeout in the other two.
On Saturday, the psychology major picked up her second save of the season after striking out the side in the top half of the seventh inning to help OSU to a 3-1 victory over the Flyers. That evening, Mazon took the circle and went on to pitch five innings to record her second no-hitter of both the season and her career in the Orange and Black to lead OSU to an 8-0 run-ruled victory over Houston. During the Houston game, Mazon recorded seven strikeouts out of the 15 batters faced and threw only 69 pitches.
Over the course of four games, Mazon pitched a combined 17.2 innings with 29 strikeouts and held opponents to a .117 batting average.
Mazon and the Beavers travel to Cathedral City, Calif. this coming weekend to face Mississippi State, Idaho State, Missouri, Long Beach State, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton over the course of four days beginning on Thursday.
