
Beavers Open Home Schedule Against Northern Colorado

CORVALLIS, Ore.– The Oregon State Wrestling team (3-1) will make their home debut of the 2019-20 season at Gill Coliseum, when they host Northern Colorado (1-1) on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
Oregon State returns home after beating No. 22 Michigan last week in Ann Arbor, 21-15. A fast-paced start by the Beavers helped guide the team to win six of ten matches in the dual including victories over two nationally-ranked grapplers.
The Beavers also found success to open the new year at the prestigious Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn., as three Beavers graced the podium as placers. Devan Turner finished in sixth place after making the semifinals as Colt Doyle finished in eighth place, respectively.
The Beavers seek their eleventh win against Northern Colorado in program history on Friday. Oregon State holds a 10-0 advantage in the series dating back to the 2003-04 season, as the Beavers previously emerged victorious in Greeley, Colo., defeating the Bears, 27-12, last season.

Beavers in the Rankings
With a sixth-place finish at the Southern Scuffle, Devan Turner remains in the rankings at 133 pounds. Turner is currently ranked No. 19 by Win Magazine, No. 21 (The Open Mat) and No. 29 (Intermat). Redshirt sophomore Grant Willits is slated at No. 15 (TrackWrestling) and No. 30 (The Open Mat), respectively. Colt Doyle is represented in TrackWrestling's rankings at No. 33 (184).
The team broke into Intermat's dual rankings at No. 24 after besting the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, 21-15. The Beavers hold a 3-1 record heading into Friday's match.
Home Sweet Home
The Beavers start off their home slate with one of five duals beginning this Friday, Jan. 10. The team will face off in three nationally-televised duals at Gill Coliseum starting with Wyoming (Jan. 31) on the Pac-12 Networks. The end of February features three consecutive duals inside Gill as Oregon State faces off against California Baptist (Feb. 14), Little Rock (Feb. 15) and Pac-12 opponent Cal Poly (Feb. 22).
Scouting The Bears
Northern Colorado is currently listed at 35th in Trackwrestling's team rankings this week. The Bears are 1-1 in duals so far this season, defeating West Virginia 31-10 and falling to Fresno State, 25-15. The team has six wrestlers represented in the national rankings including 149-pound true freshman Andrew Alirez (15-1) who is ranked as high as No. 11 by The Open Mat.
Last season, the Beavers defeated the Bears, 27-12, in Greeley, winning seven matches and grabbing bonus points in three of them. Grant Willits (141), Colt Doyle (184) and Jamarcus Grant (HWT) each notched victories to help earn the team win.

- In his 14th season with the Beavers, head coach Jim Zalesky has brought the wrestling program to unprecedented heights. Zalesky's OSU teams have captured seven Pac-10/12 championships and finished either first or second 10 times. He's mentored 14 All-Americans and 32 conference champions.
