Italy Day 3: When In Rome
August 23, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State experiences the Colloseum, among other sites
ROME, Italy – The Oregon State women's basketball team traveled north on Friday, as the team's Italian tour shifted from Naples to Rome.
Â
The Beavers spent the afternoon doing a walking tour of Rome, taking in some of the most historic sites in all of Europe. The day included views of the Spanish Steps, the Roman Forum, and the Trevi Fountain.
Â
"I have always looked forward to seeing the Trevi Fountain," said senior Janessa Thropay. "I've dreamed of throwing that coin over my shoulder, so that was really cool. There is so much history in Rome, and the entire day was full of memories."
Â
From there the team headed to the Colosseum, where they got a guided tour of the impressive ancient structure.
Â
The Oregon State squad had some time to explore the city in the early evening, before coming together to enjoy dinner as a group.
Â
Saturday will bring a tour of the Vatican, as well as the first game of the Beavers' Italian trip. Oregon State will take on Lazio Select at 10 a.m. PT.
Â
"It's going to be crazy to be in a foreign country, playing against pro players," said Thropay. "They're going to be very seasoned, and I'm excited to have our team get tested."
