July 31, 2019 | Women's Rowing
CORVALLIS, Ore. – David Herrick has been named as a women's rowing assistant coach at Oregon State University on July 31, 2019.
Herrick will head up the Beavers' novice walk-on process, assist with recruiting and help with the overall development of the team.
"We are excited to welcome David to Oregon State," head coach Kate Maxim said. "I am confident that David's education, experience and character will contribute to the culture we are working hard to build at Oregon State. His passion for the walk-on experience, eagerness to learn and compelling work ethic will help to attract and develop inspired student-athletes for OSU Rowing."
"I'm incredibly excited to join Coach Maxim, her staff and the team at Oregon State," Herrick said. "This program has high goals and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help them while representing such an excellent university."
Herrick joins the Beavers following three seasons at Virginia, first as a volunteer assistant, and then as the graduate assistant coach. The Cavaliers raced to a 10th-place overall finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships.
Prior to his stint at UVA, Herrick served as a volunteer coach with the Syracuse men's team. During the summers of 2016-18, Herrick worked as the associate head coach for the Penn AC junior program.
Herrick began his coaching career at Washington State during the 2014-15 season as an assistant, helping guide the Cougars to their best season in five years. WSU captured first in the Lightweight men's 8+ and 4+, second in the Varsity 8+, and a bronze medal finish in the Second Novice 8+ and Open 2x at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships. At the American Collegiate Rowing Association Championships (ACRA) that spring, the Cougars raced to silver medals in the Lightweight Men's 4+ and Open 2x, and a fifth-place finish in the Novice 8.
Herrick walked on to the men's rowing team as a novice freshman at Washington State during the fall of 2010. He earned Pac-12 All-Conference honors in 2013 and 2014, while also serving as a member of the Student Officer Corps.
A Colorado native, Herrick graduated from Washington State in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He completed his Master's in Exercise Physiology while at Virginia and wrote his thesis on comparing perceived exertion vs. heart rate as training monitors in collegiate female rowers.
