June 22, 2019 | Men's Golf, Women's Golf
PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon State golfers Spencer Tibbits and Ellie Slama both won the 110th Oregon Amateur Championship on Saturday.
Tibbits, a rising junior from Vancouver, Wash., defeated Daniel Snoey 8 and 6 in the 36-hole final at the Portland Golf Club. According to Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn, he's the first Beaver golfer to win the Oregon Amateur since Nick Chianello in 2013. Chianello also won in 2012, while Paul Peterson (2010), Mitch Gillis (2006) and Casey Winters (1996) are the other Oregon State golfers to win the event.
Slama, a rising junior from Salem, Ore., won the Oregon Amateur for the second consecutive year with a 3 and 2 win over Haley Greb. She won her first Oregon Amateur last year with a 2 and 1 win over Jessica Young. Slama was the medalist and match play champion at the 2015 and 2017 Oregon Junior Amateur.
"It means a lot to win such a great tournament two years in a row," Slama said. "With match play anything can happen. So being able to play consistently throughout the whole week was crucial. I had a great time play with familiar faces. Overall, it was a great tournament."
