Oregon State Drops Regular Season Finale

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Grant Gambrell scattered four hits and two runs in six innings but Oregon State was edged Saturday by USC, 5-0, in front of 4,018 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
 
The game marked the regular season finale for both teams. The Beavers finished the regular season at 36-18-1 overall and 21-8 in Pac-12 Conference play, good for third. Oregon State will await its postseason matchup on Monday. USC, meanwhile, saw its season come to an end at 25-29-1 overall and 13-15-1 in league play.
 
Gambrell was charged with the loss after allowing solo runs in both the second and sixth innings. He struck out five and dropped to 5-2 this season.
 
USC's Kyle Hurt picked up the win to finish the season at 3-7. He held the Beavers to four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Chris Clarke picked up his eighth save with two scoreless frames.
 
Oregon State honored its 2019 senior class before the game. The 2019 senior class includes right-handed pitchers Bryce Fehmel, Dylan Pearce and Sam Tweedt and infielder Zak Taylor.
