Beavers Celebrate Seniors With A Win

CORVALLIS – Oregon State's softball program sent the six seniors out on a high note for the final game of the 2019 season with a 4-2 win over Utah on Saturday morning.
Shelby Weeks led the charge for the Beavers going 3-for-3 while scoring two runs. Jessica Garcia followed that with two hits of her own, one run and one RBI. Frankie Hammoude tacked on three RBIs and one hit while Missy Nunes recorded one hit.
Utah took the early 2-0 lead before Oregon State tacked on a run in the fourth inning.
OSU began the comeback with a single from Weeks who advanced to second on an error by Utah putting her in scoring position for Garcia to hit a single through the gap in the middle allowing Weeks to score.
The Beavers made the push to take the lead in the fifth inning when Hammoude came up big for with a base-clearing double. It began when Weeks and Garcia hit back-to-back singles straight up the middle. Camryn Ybarra was walked and replaced with Karla Calderon as a pinch runner to load the bases for Hammoude to hit the first pitch to the wall in right field.
The win improved the Beavers to a 26-19 overall record and 8-14 record in Pacific-12 Conference action. Utah, meanwhile, dropped to 19-35 overall and 7-17 in Pac-12 play.
Sophomore Mariah Mazon started for the Beavers and picked up her 17th win and 20th complete game on the season with seven strike outs.

Oregon State will await the potential of a post-season appearance. The NCAA Selection Show is Sunday, May 12 at 6 p.m.
