Beavers Set to Host High Performance Meet
April 24, 2019 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS – Oregon State's strongest team since the program's reinstatement will compete at the seventh annual High Performance Meet this Friday and Saturday at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
Over 2,500 competitors have entered the event, which has evolved from modest beginnings to become the jewel of OSU's outdoor season, and one of the premier regular-season meets in the Pacific Northwest.
44 teams or track clubs are expected to be in attendance spanning all levels of collegiate athletics. Some of the teams competing at the High Performance Meet this weekend include Oregon, Gonzaga, Washington State, Idaho, Portland, Portland State, Santa Clara, Seattle U. and more.
This is the fifth year of a two-day meet, which starts on Friday afternoon with an expanded Distance Carnival, the pole vault, the hammer and the discus. The Distance Carnival includes the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. In addition, the local youth will have an opportunity to shine on the big stage during the Corvallis Middle School 800 meter Challenge.
Saturday opens with the "Spring Six", a community 6K and kid run put on as a collaborative effort between The Heart of the Valley Run Club and the Oregon State track and field program. The 6K starts and ends at the Whyte Track & Field Center. Following the 6K, youth 14 years and under can participate in a 100, 200, and 400 meter races
Saturday's competition starts at 11:30 a.m. with the women's shot put, followed by the high jump, long jump, triple jump and javelin. The first track event is the 4x100-meter relay that is slated for a 1 p.m. start. The Oregon State senior class will be honored before the start of racing at 12:35 p.m.
The High Performance Meet is the lone home appearance for the Beavers, who have set two school records since starting the outdoor campaign at the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on March 16. They also have posted 24 all-time top-10 times or marks in OSU's record book.
Current Oregon State record holders on the team: Juliana Mount - 3K Steeplechase, 10:22.97; Gillette Field - Pole Vault, 12' 10.25"; Keely McLaughlin - Shot Put, 50' 2"; Lindsay McShane - Hammer Throw, 196' 4"; Destiny Dawson - Javelin, 171' 7".
