April 10, 2019 | Baseball
DURHAM, N.C. – Oregon State juniors Brandon Eisert and Adley Rutschman have been named to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, USA Baseball announced on Wednesday.
Oregon State is one of seven programs nationally to place multiple players on the watch list, which is comprised of 40 of the nation's top amateur players. Rutschman, a catcher from Sherwood, Ore., is on the midseason watch list for the second consecutive season. Eisert, a left-handed pitcher from Beaverton, Ore., is on it for the first time.
Eisert comes into Oregon State's series with Arizona State at 7-0 on the season with a 0.75 earned run average. The lefty has appeared in 10 games, making 10 starts, and has struck out 51 to just five walks while holding opponents to a .184 batting average. He was named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after holding Washington to four hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings on March 29.
Rutschman hit his 12th home run of the season Tuesday versus Oregon and is batting .426 with four doubles, a triple, 40 runs batted in and 40 walks on the year. He's been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week twice this season, earning his second recognition on Monday after homering in all three games versus Utah.
Per USA Baseball: On Wednesday, May 15, USA Baseball will announce the semifinalists for the 2019 Golden Spikes Award. The list of semifinalists will then be sent to a voting body consisting of baseball media members, select professional baseball personnel, current USA Baseball staff and 40 of the previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters. As part of this selection process, all voters will be asked to choose three players from the list of semifinalists. On May 29, USA Baseball will announce the finalists, and voting for the winner will begin that same day.
Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2019. Beginning with the semifinalist announcement and continuing through the finalist round voting deadline, fans from across the country will be able to vote for their favorite player on GoldenSpikesAward.com.
