
Beavers Head to Tempe for Pac-12 Championships

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State wrestling team is in its final preparations as they travel to Tempe, Ariz. for the 2019 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships on Saturday, March 9.

Beavers in the Ranks
The Beavers hold their highest rankings in TheOpenMat poll coming in at No. 17 this week. Oregon State moved down one place in the FloWrestling rankings from last week to No. 18, while InterMat maintains the Beavers No. 18 ranking this week. TrackWrestling ranks OSU the lowest at No. 20.
OSU continues to have one of the best pair of bookends in the country at 125 pounds and heavyweight. Ronnie Bresser (21-1) is ranked highest at No. 3, TheOpenMat, while the remainder of polls put him at No. 4 at the 125 pound weight class, and currently riding a 13-match win streak, which began in December. His only loss of the season came in sudden victory to the current No. 1 Sabastian Rivera (Northwestern).
Heavyweight Amar Dhesi (8-1) continues to improve week in and week out having had a late start to the season. Dhesi is ranked highest by TheOpenMat this week maintaining his No. 3 ranking. Both InterMat and FloWrestling place the Surrey, B.C. native at No. 4 this week, while TrackWrestling ranks him at No. 6. Sophomore 157-pounder Hunter Willits, although having not wrestled a match in a number of weeks, sits at No. 30 in the most recent Coaches Rankings released earlier this week.
Returning Champs
The Beavers are bringing back two Pac-12 champions from last year in Ronnie Bresser (125) and Amar Dhesi (285). OSU had one second place finisher in Hunter Willits (157), while Josh Reyes (149) picked up a third place finish. As a team, Oregon State placed second with 70 team points.
Pac-12 Success
OSU has found plenty of success under the direction of head coach Jim Zalesky. During his tenure at Oregon State, Zalesky has led the Beavers to seven team titles, and 28 individual champions

Should any of the Beavers qualify, the NCAA Championships are held on March 21-23 in Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Arena.
