McShane Opens Outdoor Season with Record-Setting Performance
March 15, 2019 | Women's Track & Field
OREGON CITY – Lindsay McShane got the outdoor season started off right for the Oregon State track and field team on the opening day of the Lewis & Clark Spring Break Open on Friday.
Â
"We had a pretty good opener in the hammer today," began associate head coach David Dumble. "The ladies definitely showed improvement over last year; in fact, they all opened up further than they did last year at this time."
Â
McShane had her record-setting throw of 191-feet, 5.5-inches on her second attempt in the only event for the day for Oregon State capturing the individual title. She beat out previous record holder and current teammate Jessica Molina who captured the record last year and now sits in second (183-11).
Â
"Lindsay McShane was the highlight for today as she set a new school record," said Dumble. "Five of her six throws were over her old personal record which really shows her improvement from last year."
Â
Competing unattached, Haleigh Sudbeck had the second best throw of the day at 172-feet, 11-inches. Keely McLaughlin threw 169-feet, 3-inches finishing in third place overall, and moving up to No. 5 in the OSU record books in the hammer throw.
Â
Jessica Molina placed fourth overall with a mark of 168-feet, 3-inches, while Sydney Guthrie-Baker placed fifth, 165-feet, 2-inches.
Â
"We threw well today," said Dumble. "But we still have more great throws to come this season."
