Beavers Close out Regular Season at Cal Baptist

CORVALLIS – It's time for the final regular season dual of the season for the Oregon State wrestling team as they travel to southern California for a nonconference showdown at Cal Baptist inside of Van Dyne Gym at 7 p.m.

Beavers in the Ranks
The Beavers jumped up a few spots this week in the rankings to as high as No. 15 by TheOpenMat. Oregon State moved up one place in the FloWrestling rankings from last week to No. 17. InterMat maintains the Beavers No. 18 ranking this week, while TrackWrestling ranks OSU at No. 20.

OSU continues to have one of the best pair of bookends in the country at 125 pounds and heavyweight. Ronnie Bresser (20-1) is a unanimous No. 3 at the 125 pound weight class, currently riding a 12-match win streak, which began in December. His only loss of the season came in sudden victory to the current No. 1 Sabastian Rivera (Northwestern).

Heavyweight Amar Dhesi (7-1) continues to improve week in and week out having had a late start to the season. Dhesi is ranked highest by TheOpenMat this week maintaining his No. 3 ranking. Both InterMat and FloWrestling place the Surrey, B.C. native at No. 4 this week, while TrackWrestling drops him to No. 6.

Sophomore 157-pounder Hunter Willits, although having not wrestled a match in a number of weeks, sits at No. 30 in the most recent Coaches Rankings released earlier this week.

Last Time Out
The Beavers gave it all they had, but ultimately fell to Stanford at home on senior night by a final score of 19-16. Redshirt freshman Grant Willits (141), junior Bob Coleman (184), Bresser (125) and Dhesi (285) won their individual bouts.

Cal Baptist
Cal Baptist transitioned from an NCAA Division II wrestling program to a Division I program for the 2018-19 season. The Lancers are led by Oregon State head coach Jim Zalesky's brother, Lennie Zalesky.

CBU is 2-4 overall in its inaugural season at the Division I level. The Lancers have losses to Ohio State, Fresno State, Stanford and Penn; their two wins came against Drexel and Cal Poly.

Oregon State will sit idle for a week as they enter their final preparations for the Pacific-12 Conference Wrestling Championships in Tempe, Ariz. on March 9th.
