Beavers Take Down No. 2 Ducks at Sold Out Gill

Oregon State takes down Oregon 67-62
CORVALLIS – The No. 12 Oregon State women's basketball team earned a 67-62 win over No. 2 Oregon Monday evening in an instant classic at a sold out Gill Coliseum.
"This game was the battle you knew it would be," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "It was an incredible atmosphere – the energy that Beaver Nation brings to us is incredible. I was proud of this team for continuing to mature right in front of our eyes. Our defense was on point from the beginning of the game, we hit big shots, and our energy and will to win was elite. I couldn't be happier for this team. Oregon is a great team, and they forced us to play huge. This was a great night in Gill."
The capacity crowd of 9,301 featured a program record 1,211 students.
The game was a battle throughout, and the score was tied with less than three minutes to play before redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum came up with a pair of big buckets to help Oregon State seal the win.
Slocum finished with 20 points and four assists. She went 8-for-14 from the floor and 2-for-6 from 3-point range.
Sophomore Aleah Goodman scored 22 points, knocking down four 3-pointers and all six of her free throw attempts. Junior Mikayla Pivec notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, going 5-for-6 from the floor. Senior Katie McWilliams played all 40 minutes for the second-straight game.
As a team, the Beavers shot 48 percent from the floor and held the Ducks to 35.8 percent shooting. Oregon State out-rebounded Oregon 39-30.
The teams went back and forth early, with the Beavers taking a 10-7 lead into the first media break. Oregon State used some hot 3-point shooting to end the first quarter ahead 20-15.
The Beavers jumped in front by nine early in the second. Oregon State led by as many as 11 in the period, before heading to the break up 33-27.
Oregon State shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, paced by 15 points from Goodman. The Beavers held the Ducks to 33.3 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes.
Oregon got back within four early in the second half, before briefly leveling the score in the third quarter. The Beavers headed to the closing frame up 50-48.
The Ducks took the lead with 6:30 left in the fourth, before the Beavers leveled the score at 52 heading to the final media timeout with 3:14 to go. Slocum's baskets put Oregon State in front before Slocum, McWilliams, Goodman and Taya Corosdale knocked down free throws to lock down the win.
Overall, the Beavers went 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
Oregon State will be back at Gill Coliseum Friday evening when USC visits Corvallis.
