Adley Rutschman hit a fourth-inning grand slam and Nathan Burns tossed a 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to send the Beavers to a 13-1 win over Minnesota on Sunday in Surprise. Oregon State tallied 17 hits on the day, including two apiece by Rutschman, Preston Jones, Alex McGarry, Tyler Malone, Andy Armstrong and Kyler McMahan. Burns held Minnesota to just one walk while striking out four for the win.

Pat Bailey and the Beavers improved to 3-0 on Sunday with the 13-1 win. Bailey is the fifth head coach in Oregon State's history go 3-0 in their first season with the program. He matches Pat Casey (1995), Ralph Coleman (1923), Hans Loof (1916) and Wilkie Clark (1914). Casey opened his first season at 5-0 and Clark went 4-0 before suffering his first loss.
Sunday Versus The First Two
Oregon State's 17-hit output eclipsed the team's total of 15 over the first two games. The Beavers also tallied eight doubles. OSU had two over the first two games. The eight doubles are just two shy of the team's single-game record of 10 last equaled in 2003 versus Portland.
First Career
Kyler McMahan, George Mendazona, Ryan Ober and Jake Harvey all posted their first career hits on Sunday. McMahan was 2-for-4 with a double. Ober was 1-for-2 with two runs scored while Mendazona singled in his lone at bat and Harvey doubled in his. Both Mendazona and Harvey came on as pinch hitters in the eighth inning.
Looking Ahead
The Beavers will remain in Surprise after Monday's game and will take on Nebraska in a four-game series that starts Thursday. The Cornhuskers, whom the Beavers are playing for the third consecutive season, are 3-1 after a four-game series at UC Riverside.
