Offense Explodes as Beavers Throttle Wildcats, 56-38

TUCSON, Ariz. - A well-oiled Beaver offense came to life as Oregon State collected a 56-38 victory against Arizona at Arizona Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Â
A consistent running game featuring a one-two punch of running backs Jermar Jefferson and Artavis Pierce proved to be overwhelming for the Wildcats as the pair combined for 219 yards to help the Beavers improve to a 3-0 road record in conference play.Â
The Beavers fired on all cylinders out of the gate as redshirt senior quarterback Jake Luton first found junior receiver Isaiah Hodgins on a 21-yard strike which capped off a 75-yard drive on the team's first possession. A highlight-reel filled junior season continued on the road for Hodgins as he picked up seven catches for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
The lead would bloom in the second quarter for Oregon State as standout sophomore Jermar Jefferson returned to the field after injury and scored three rushing touchdowns on the day. Jefferson would pick up two scores in the second quarter including a pair of short rushes to go up 21-12. Â
The Beavers would go on to dominate the second quarter as they scored on three consecutive possessions including a 92-yard drive and two 75-yard drives.Â
Heading into the break, senior running back Artavis Pierce scored on a five-yard rush before tight end Noah Togiai extended the lead to 35-19 with nine seconds left in the half. Â Arizona would end up cutting the lead to nine in the fourth quarter but Oregon State had other plans down the stretch.Â
Luton found a familiar target in Hodgins on a 25-yard touchdown pass with 8:00 minutes remaining to help give the receiver his 17th score of the season. The sixth year quarterback proved his efficiency as he completed 20-of-26 passes for 328 yards and three touchdowns. The Oregon State offense exploded for 572 yards in the contest including 244 on the ground.Â
The Beaver defense was led by Omar Speights with 10 tackles including six solo stops and a tackle for loss. Avery Roberts added eight tackles with another six solo stops of his own. Hamilcar Rashed Jr. put together another dominant performance with four tackles and three sacks.Â

Oregon State returns to the friendly confines of Reser Stadium on Friday, Nov. 8Â for an evening matchup against conference opponent Washington. The game is slated for 7:30 P.M. PT and will be televised on FS1.Â
