Goodrich, McLaughlin, Nunes and Shafer named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2018-19 All-American Scholar-Athlete honors and four OSU softball players made the list.
Payton Goodrich, Bailey McLaughlin, Missy Nunes and Kayleen Shafer all garnered the honor with outstanding work in the classroom during the 2018-19 year. These four Beavers are among 1,769 NCAA Division I student-athletes honored. Each student-athlete finished the 2018-19 academic year with at least a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
The rankings and honors recognized the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. In total, 8,161 student-athletes were honored. This marks a first in NFCA history that over 8,000 student-athletes were honored between NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior Colleges and High School. The NCAA Division III led the way with 1,928 student-athletes honored. NCAA Division I was second followed by Division II with 1,306 honorees. NAIA and two-year programs each amassed 570 recipients.
Goodrich, McLaughlin and Nunes all return to the squad for the 2020 season. Shafer graduated in June with a degree in business management and is pursuing her MBA at Cal State Fullerton while serving as a graduate assistant for the softball program.
