Beavers Look to Get Back on Track at Home Against L.A. Schools

ON TAP
• The Beavers, who were on the road last week for the Washington trip, return to Gill Coliseum to host the Los Angeles schools.
OSU (8-9, 2-48 Pac-12) hosts USC (9-7, 3-3) Friday night at 7 p.m.
• Oregon State returns to the court Sunday at 2 p.m. to host UCLA (9-6, 4-2).
DAM WORTH IT
• Friday's match is OSU volleyball's designated Dam Worth It game. Dam Worth It is a campaign started by former OSU student-athletes Nathan Braaten and Taylor Ricci with the goal to destigmatize and raise awareness about student-athlete mental health issues. DAM CANCER
• Sunday's match is the volleyball program's annual
DAM Cancer match presented by The Corvallis
Clinic.
• There will also be a silent auction in the Gill Coliseum lobby. Proceeds from the auction benefit Project H.E.R.
PROMOTIONS
• In addition, Friday home volleyball matches are Faculty/Staff Friday games. Oregon State faculty and staff can purchase tickets for $5 with a valid OSU ID.
• 2019 volleyball summer camp participants also receive free admission to every 2019 volleyball match if they show up wearing their official camper t-shirt.
TELEVISION
• Friday's match against the Trojans will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Oregon only. Elise Woodard will be on the call.
• Sunday's match against the Bruins will also air live, this time on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Los Angeles. Anne Marie Anderson will have the play-by-play for the Beavers-Bruins.
• Fans with subscriptions to the Network can also watch the matches on Pac-12.com, or via the Pac-12 Now app.

AGAINST THE TROJANS
• Oregon State trails the all-time series with USC 9-55. OSU lost both meetings with USC in 2018 in a three sets. The most recent win for the Beavers in the series came in a four-set match in 2014 by scores of 25-22, 19-25, 25-23 and 25-13..
AGAINST THE BRUINS
• OSU is also behind in the series with UCLA 3-61. The Beavers took a 2-0 lead on the Bruins in Corvallis in 2018 before falling in five sets. OSU's last win over the Bruins came in 2007 when the Beavers upset the 4th-ranked Bruins in five in Westwood.
LAST WEEK
• A week after experimenting with a 6-2 system, the Beavers continued to use Maddie Sheehan and Montanna Gubrud in the two-setter system while the team took on a pair of ranked teams in No. 11 Washington and No. 24 Washington State on the road.
• Maddie Goings paced the OSU offense with nine kills and Chloe Brown added seven kills and a team-high 11 digs in a three-set loss at Washington.
• Haylie Bennett led the Orange & Black with a career-high 22 kills but the Beavers fell to No. 24 Washington State in four sets. In all, OSU's opposite hitters, Bennett and Goings combined for 35 kills against the Cougars. Grace Massey led the OSU back row wit 16 digs and her usual stellar passing.
DIGGING THROUGH THE RECORD BOOKS
• Early in the preseason, junior libero Grace Massey moved into OSU's Top 10 in history. She has since moved up to seventh in OSU history with 1,261. She needs 43 digs to tie Shelly Smith (1991-94) for fifth.
• Massey, who entered the season with 993 digs, became the 16th player in OSU history to amass 1,000 career digs during the first match of the season, against UC Irvine at the Oregon Classic.
• Junior outside hitter Maddie Goings has also moved into the Beavers' top 30 with 740 career digs, 26th in school history
SETTING THE OFFENSE
• Sophomore setter Maddie Sheehan became the 13th player in school history to register 1,000 career assists.
• Sheehan has moved into 10th place all-time at OSU and currently has 1,467 career assists. Most recently, Sheehan moved past McKenna Hollingsworth and Christine Wilson and needs 298 to tie Kristy Wing (1988-91) for ninth in OSU history.
• Senior setter Montanna Gubrud, who transferred into the program in 2018, set an OSU career-high with 33 assists in the Beavers' win over Yale at the Hoosier Invite.
GOINGS IS KILLING IT
• Junior Maddie Goings, who moved to the right side to begin the season, leads the team with 2.98 kills per set (155 total).
• Goings registered 56 kills at the Hoosier Invite for a 4.67 k/s clip en route to earning all-tournament honors.
• Goings now has 869 kills in her career which ranks 21st in OSU history. She needs 17 to tie Helen Hoonhout (teammate Haylie Bennett's mother) for 20th place.
CHESHIRE HAS NUMBERS TOO
• Senior middle blocker Kory Cheshire is moving up the Beavers' career blocks lists this fall.
• Cheshire currently has 272 total blocks in her career ranking 15th in OSU history. She needs five blocks to tie Tami Good (1984-87) and six to tie former teammate Maddy Gravley (2015-18) for 13th and 14th on the Beavers' all-time list.
• In addition, Cheshire has 221 block assists to rank 15th. She needs two more to tie Abby Windell (2003-06) and five to tie Shelly Smith (1991-94).
• And she is up to 50 career solo blocks to rank 20th in school history. She needs two solos to tie Lexie Rathgeber (2006-09) for 19th.
CLARKE COMES THROUGH IN CLUTCH
• Redshirt senior Shekinah Clarke was called upon for the first time in 2019 at the Redhawk Invitational when the Beavers were decimated by injuries. Clarke came through with a team-leading, and career-high, 15 kills in her first start against New Mexico to lead the squad to a come from behind five-set win.
• Clarke went on to tally another 19 kills in the next two matches helping the Beavers to a 3-0 record over the weekend (9/13-14).
• Was named to the Redhawk Invitational All-Tournament Team.
• Recently, Clarke has been forced into a defensive specialist-type role due to injury. She posted a career-best 13 digs in the win over Colorado (9/27).
• In an unrelated note, Clarke's brother, Onesimus, made his first career start at left guard for the Beavers' football team during the same weekend as the Redhawk Invitational -- a win over Cal Poly that Saturday (9/14).
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMS
• Oregon Classic - New starting outside hitters Chloe Brown and Cecilee Max-Brown were named ot the Oregon Classic All-Tournament Team in their OSU debuts. Brown led the Beavers with 12 and 13 kills respectively and registered the first double-double of her career.
• Hoosier Invite - Maddie Goings set a career-high with 26 kills against Oklahoma and totaled 56 in the Beavers' trip to Indiana. Goings was named to the all-tournament team.
• Redhawk Invitational - Kory Cheshire garnered MVP honors and Shekinah Clarke earned an all-tournament nod as the Beavers swept the competition. Cheshire set a career-high with 17 kills against Gonzaga and 23 digs against New Mexico, while Clarke registered a career-high 15 kills against the Lobos.
