2019 Softball Signee Grace Messmer is one of 17 athletes to make Team Canada.
CORVALLIS, Ore. – 2019 Oregon State softball commit Grace Messmer (Cloverdale, B.C.) is one of 17 athletes named to the Canadian Junior Women's National Team.
Messmer accepted an invitation to attend a Selection Camp in Fort Myers, Fla. earlier this month with 26 other athletes. To be invited, Messmer went through a series of combines ran by the Junior Women's National Team coaching staff and was scouted at several tournaments last summer.
Messmer has earned one of 17 available spots. The team also has two alternates. Team Canada will compete at the Canada Cup International Softball Championship that runs from July 8-14 in Surrey, B.C. later followed by the World Baseball Softball Confederation U-19 Women's Softball World Cup in Irvine, Calif. from August 11-17. Team Canada will be looking for a podium result after finishing fourth at the two previous World Cups held in Oklahoma City in 2015 and Clearwater in 2017.
Messmer could potentially play against future teammate Frankie Hammoude who made the JWNT for the United States at the WBSC U-19 Women's Softball World Cup.
