Kylor Kelley Selected To Defensive Player Of The Year Watch List
January 22, 2019 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Kylor Kelley was selected to the midseason watch list of players in contention for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Bona, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Tuesday.
The list includes 15 men's college basketball players whose defensive efforts on the court have set them apart from the pack.
"Defense makes up a huge part of every win in college basketball, and we're excited to recognize those who defend the hardwood," said Eric Oberman, executive director of the Atlanta Tipoff Club. "These players represent on-court toughness and a defensive tenacity that make them worthy of consideration for this award."
Kelley, a native of Gervais, Ore., has started 11 straight games for the Beavers and leads the nation in blocked shots per game (3.94). He has set two Oregon State records this season -- single-game blocked shots (9 vs. Pepperdine) and consecutive games with multiple blocked shots (15).
The 7-foot junior forward has 67 blocked shots this season and needs just seven more to break the Oregon State single-season record of 73 by Eric Moreland (2012-13). The school record by a junior is 68 by Scott Haskin (1991-92).
Kelley is fourth in the Pac-12 in field goal percentage (.625) and 12th in rebounding (6.2).
