Force Wins on Floor, No. 21 Beavs Fall to No. 4 Utes

CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 21 Oregon State showed improvement in the second meet of the season against No. 4 Utah, Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum. The Beavers fell short on the scoreboard but tallied a season-high score, 195.450, in the process.
OSU, which fell to the Utes 197.150-195.450, moves to 3-1 on the season, while Utah improved to 3-0.
"I saw some positive things tonight," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We have room for improvement and we will continue to work hard in practice to be better each week. We have a lot of people that are returning from injuries and illness and we look forward to having everyone back in lineups and providing depth for this squad moving forward."
Sophomore Savanna Force produced the Beavers' highest score of the meet, for the second straight week, registering a career-high 9.925 on the floor exercise to earn the first event title of her career. Fellow sophomore Kaitlyn Yanish performing in the all-around for the second time in her career compiled a new personal-mark as well scoring 38.925 to finish second in the all-around.
The Beavers' floor lineup reached the 49-point mark for the second week in a row hitting a season-high 49.325. McKenna Singley tied for third in the meet with a 9.875 while Yanish and Isis Lowery each drew scores of 9.85.
Oregon State trailed from the outset, 49.175-48.950, despite recording a season-high in the opening rotation. Lacy and Madi Dagen each tallied marks of 9.825 to lead the squad on the event.
Utah, which boasted the second-ranked vault team entering the week, opened the lead in the second stanza to 98.575-97.850. Lowery nailed the second bars routine of her career with a personal-best 9.85 to lead the Beavers and Halli Briscoe earned a 9.825. Sophomore Colette Yamaoka scored 9.725 in the first
competition routine of her college career.
OSU hit a bumpy patch during the third rotation on the balance beam. Maela Lazaro registered a score of 9.85 to tie for the event title, but the Beavers were forced to count a fall on the beam and scored 48.275.
The Beavers hit the road next Saturday to take on No. 20 Washington in Seattle. The meet is set for a 7:30 p.m. start and will be broadcast on Pac-12 Network.
