Beavers Stay In-State for Rose City Showdown

BACK IN ACTION AT ROSE CITY SHOWDOWN
• Oregon State returns to the court Friday at the Rose City Showdown hosted by Portland State.
• The Beavers face with UC Davis (3-1) on Friday at 11 a.m. to open the tournament.
• In the second match of the day, OSU takes on host Portland State at 6 p.m.

AGAINST THE FIELD
• Oregon State faces UC Davis for the fourth time in program history. The Beavers lead the series 2-1. It is the first meeting since a five-set win in a 2013 tournament at the University of Portland.
• The Beavers and Vikings have met 45 times previously with Portland State the victors in 35 of the contests. The last meeting came in a five-set win in Portland in 2010. OSU has won the last six times the teams have met dating back to 1990.
PAC-12 HONORS
• Grace Massey was named as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Massey collected 65 digs, the most in the conference last week, for a 4.33 digs per set average. She managed 28 digs against Ole Miss and 22 in a five-set win over Virginia and was named as a co-MVP of the Iowa State Challenge.
• It is the third Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honor of Massey's career.
ACES
• Despite returning five starters from 2017, three newcomers earned starting roles for the season-opener against Virginia - redshirt freshman MB Lindsey Schell, junior transfer OH Amy Underdown and sophomore transfer S Allison Hughes.
• Also making their Beaver debuts were freshman S Maddie Sheehan and junior transfer S Montanna Gubrud.
• OSU shifted to a 6-2 system, using two setters, for the Iowa State match going with Sheehan and Gubrud.
• Sophomore libero Grace Massey was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Massey accumulated a conference high 65 digs at the Iowa State Challenge and was named as a tournament co-MVP.
• Sophomore OH Maddie Goings and Schell were named to the Iowa State Challenge all-tournament team. Goings registered a career-high 25 kills in the win over the Cyclones and was in double-digits in all three matches. Schell also converted at least 10 kills in each match and added 21 blocks in her first college action.
• Senior Kayla Ellis ranks seventh in OSU history with 1,223 career digs. She is on pace to move into the top three on OSU's all-time list by the end of the season. She needs 19 digs to move into the top five passing Miya Malauulu (1,230) and Kristy Wing (1,241).
• Senior Kory Cheshire ranks tied (Rachel Hochgesang, 1993-96) for 23rd all-time in total blocks at OSU. She needs 12 blocks to move into the top 20 in OSU history.

As a ticketed event, Oregon State volleyball matches will now adhere to the Athletic Department's Clear Bag Policy, which was implemented in the spring as an additional security measure and to provide fans a more consistent and efficient entry process.
