Avery Roberts Transfers To Oregon State

Roberts played one season at Nebraska and joins the Beavers as a sophomore
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sophomore Avery Roberts has joined the Oregon State football program, head coach Jonathan Smith announced on Wednesday.

Roberts, a 6-foot-1 linebacker from Wilmington, Delaware, joins the program after lettering one season at Nebraska. He played in 12 games as a freshman in 2017, making four tackles, with each coming on special teams.

His freshman campaign followed a stellar career at Concord High School, where he made 423 tackles, with 24 sacks, three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns. He had 135 tackles as a senior, with 18 going for a loss, eight sacks, four fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles.

Roberts was ranked as the No. 6 inside linebacker nationally by 247Sports coming out of high school, and as the No. 8 outside linebacker by Rivals.com. Rivals.com also listed him as the No. 83 player nationally overall.

Additionally, he was named as the top prospect in the state of Delaware his senior year by Rivals.com, ESPN and 247Sports, and was the 2016 State Defensive Player of the Year.

Roberts, who will have to sit out the 2018 season due to NCAA transfer rules, was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for Fall 2017.
