June 23, 2018 | Women's Golf
BEND, Ore. – Ellie Slama capped a spectacular week of golf with a 2 and 1 match play win over Jessica Young on Saturday to capture the women's title at the 109th Oregon Amateur Championship.
On Saturday's 36-hole final at the Bend Golf Club, Slama birdied the 34th hole to take a 1 up lead and got a par on the 35th hole for the 2 and 1 win.
Slama finished third in the two-day stroke play qualifying with an even-par 72-72--144 to advance to match play. After getting a bye in the first round, she defeated Gretchen Johnson in 22 holes, Madi Daniel in 19 holes and Ellen Secor 4 and 3 to advance to the finals.
"Last year I was fortunate enough to win the Oregon Junior Amateur and to follow it with the Oregon Am title really means a lot to me," Slama said. "I am so thankful to the OGA for always putting on great tournaments and for the chance to play against old friends."
A native of Salem, Ore., Slama set the Oregon State single-season scoring average record this past season as a freshman with a 72.79. She shot 10 sub-par rounds and won the individual title at the Ron Moore Invitational with an Oregon State three-round record score of 11-under 205.
Slama was the medalist and match play champion at the 2015 and 2017 Oregon Junior Amateur.
