Beavers Fall in Series Opener to No. 5/6 Washington

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Alysha Everett hit her team-leading 11th double of the season, but the Oregon State softball team fell to No. 5/6 Washington in the series opener on Friday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex.
The Beavers fall to 26-24 overall and 7-12 in Pacific-12 Conference action. Meanwhile, the Huskies improve to 42-8 overall and 13-8 in Pac-12 play.
Everett and junior Shelby Weeks each tallied two hits on the day. Junior Kayleen Shafer and freshman Missy Nunes finished with one hit each.
Washington started fast putting up three runs in the first inning. Oregon State left one runner on in the first following the Beavers first hit of the game, a single from Weeks.
The Huskies added another run in the second for a 4-0 lead before the Beavers got one back in the bottom half of the third inning.
Weeks reached safely after singling to the shortstop and beating the throw at first. In the next at bat Everett hit her first of two standup doubles to right center field driving in the only run of the game for the Beavers.
Mariah Mazon and the OSU defense held tough through the next two innings keeping Washington off the board. The Huskies added two unearned runs in the sixth inning pushing their lead to 6-1.
Mazon tossed her team-best 16th complete game in the losing effort. She struck out four batters and falls to 11-16 on the season.

Oregon State continues its final home series with Washington on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex.
