CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 19 Oregon State men's rowing team will race for the final times this weekend at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship regatta on the shores of Lake Mercer at West Windsor, N.J.
Three OSU crews – the Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Third Varsity 8 – hit the water for the first time Friday morning with heat racing. Crews finishing in the top two in their heat advance directly to semifinals on Saturday morning with the remaining boats racing Friday afternoon in repechages for seeding in the semis. Teams will be seeded for finals on Sunday morning based on their respective finishes in semifinals.
"These are the top 24 teams in the country," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "From top to bottom it will be intense racing and one second can mean you gain or lose a few places."
The Beavers, who most recently finished fourth overall at the Pac-12 Rowing Championships, will compete at IRA Championships for the sixth straight season.
"The guys have had a great season and are hungry to cap it off on the big stage."
