Abel, Claunch Pace Beavers Over Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. – Kevin Abel tossed 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Troy Claunch drove in two runs to pace third-ranked Oregon State over Oregon, 4-3, Tuesday night in Civil War action at PK Park.
Trevor Larnach also hit his 13th home run of the season for the Beavers, who overcame a three-run first for the Ducks to win their 33rd game of the season. Oregon State improved to 33-7 on the year with its eighth straight victory over Oregon (21-21).
Abel came on in relief of starter Jordan Britton after Oregon went ahead 3-0 on a Kenyon Yovan home run. He retired the first seven batters he faced, holding the Ducks to just one hit in his career-long 6 1/3 innings of work. Abel ended the night with four strikeouts and two walks, picking up the win, his third of the year.
Claunch walked with the bases loaded in the second to pull the Beavers to within one, the drove home the game-tying run two innings later with a line-drive double down the right field line. He also shined defensively, throwing out runners attempting to steal in the fifth and sixth innings.
Steven Kwan, one batter after Claunch's double, grounded out to short, bringing in Jack Anderson from third for the game-winning run.
Jake Mulholland picked up his Pac-12 Conference leading 13th save of the season with 1 2/3 innings in relief of Abel. He retired all five batters he faces.
Oregon's James Acuna took the loss to drop to 2-2 on the year. He allowed three hits and four runs in four innings.
The game marked the fourth of five between the teams during the 2017-18 Civil War Series, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway-Albertsons and your local Toyota Dealers.

Trevor Larnach's second-inning home run marked his 13th of the year, which ties him for fourth in a single-season at Oregon State. He's tied with Al Hunsinger (1980), Joe Gerber (1999), Cole Gillespie (2006), Stefen Romero (2010) and Michael Conforto (2012). Jim Wilson's 21 in 1982 is the most in a single year, followed by Hunsinger's 15 in 1981 and Bob McNair's 14 in 1980.

Oregon State improved to 17-4 away from Goss Stadium at Coleman Field this season. The Beavers are 8-4 in true road games as they prepare for a three-game series at Washington State.
Grenier Goes 16
Shortstop Cadyn Grenier extended his team-long hit streak to 16 games after reaching safely on a ground ball to third in the ninth. The junior is 26-for-68 during the streak.
Amother Streak Extended
Steven Kwan went 1-for-5 to extend his hit streak to six games. He is 16-for-28 during the streak. Nick Madrigal saw his snapped at 11 games, as was Michael Gretler's, who had hit safely in six straight coming into the game.
