Oregon State Scores 17 To Open Series

PULLMAN, Wash. – Kyle Nobach homered and Steven Kwan, Nick Madrigal and Adley Rutschman all tallied three hits to pace third-ranked Oregon State in a 17-3 win over Washington State Friday night at Bailey-Brayton Field.
Luke Heimlich retired the last 11 batters he faced, and struck out 11 in seven innings for the win. The left-hander is the nation's first 11-game winner, and reached the 100 strikeout mark on the year for the second time in his career. He has at least 10 strikeouts in his last four games, and is at 101 on the year.
Overall, the Beavers (34-7 overall, 13-6 Pac-12 Conference) rapped out 20 hits, and scored 14 of their 17 runs in the last five innings.
Up 5-2 entering the sixth, Nobach hit his second home run of the season to put the Beavers up by five.
Oregon State then scored seven in the seventh – tying the season-high for most runs in a frame – to break the game open. The Beavers sent 11 batters to the plate during the frame, with Rutschman and Michael Gretler driving in two apiece.
Rutschman ended the night with four RBI – he also singled home a run in the second and grounded out in the eighth, which plated Trevor Larnach.
Bryce Moyle, who worked 1 2/3 innings of relief for the Cougars (14-24, 6-13) was charged with the loss to drop to 0-1. He allowed two hits and three runs.

Oregon State's 17 runs Friday were the most in a game against Washington State since the Beavers scored 19 in the 2008 series finale in Pullman. That game ended as a 19-9 Oregon State win.
The Bunt Does It
Cadyn Grenier extended his hit streak to a team-long 17 games with a bunt single in the seventh inning. He ended the game with two hits after singling in the ninth.
