Tibbits Leads Beavers On Day One At Pac-12’s
April 23, 2018 | Men's Golf
ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – Spencer Tibbits carded two sub-par rounds to lead the Oregon State men's golf team on the opening 36-hole day at the 59th Annual Pac-12 Championship.
The Beavers played well in the morning round before slipping a bit in the afternoon and are tied for ninth place with a 2-over 352-360--712 at the par-71, 7,155-yard Rolling Hills Country Club.
USC leads with a 23-under 687, while Stanford (18-under 692), Colorado (11-under 699), Arizona (9-under 701) and Arizona State (8-under 702) round out the top five.
The second round of the 6-count-5, three-day, 72-hole tournament resumes Tuesday at 9 a.m. off No. 1 and No. 10. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
"Overall, from rounds one to two, it felt like we played about the same from tee to green," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "But we made too many mistakes on the greens. Between rounds they rolled the greens and they changed the hole locations. We seemed to have a bit of trouble adjusting to the speed.
"The green complexes here are massive. You are going to have a lot of 40- to 50-foot putts. In the middle stretch of the round we just left too many five- to six-foot putts for par.
"We did a lot of things really well today and have been playing some solid golf over the last few events. We just need to find a way to get everyone going at the same time the last two rounds."
Tibbits, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., dropped in eight birdies -- three in the first round and five in the second -- and had nothing worse than a bogey to finish the day with a 3-under 69-70--139 that put him in a tie for 14th place.
Sophomore Shawn Lu and freshman Keaton Gudz are both tied for 30th place after posting an even-par 142. Lu had scores of 69-73 and Gudz went 70-72.
Sophomore Kyosuke Hara is tied for 41st place with a 2-over 72-72--144, junior Trevor Yu is tied for 55th with a 4-over 72-74--146 and junior Tom Kerkvliet is tied for 66th with a 7-over 76-73--149.
Jeffrey Swagle of Stanford and Justin Suh of USC share the individual lead with a 10-under 132.
Television coverage of the Pac-12 Championship will air in a tape-delayed, 30-minute special debuting on Sunday, May 6 at 10 a.m. on Pac-12 Network, Arizona, Los Angeles, Oregon and Washington.
