
Nunes Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO – Following a monstrous weekend at the plate in a road series sweep at Stanford, freshman Missy Nunes was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. The weekly honor is the first of Nunes' career and the second of the season for Oregon State.
Nunes batted .889 for the weekend going 8-for-9 at the plate. The freshman scored four runs, hit two doubles, two home runs and had seven RBI. She slugged 1.788 with two walks and no strikeouts during the three day stretch.
Defensively Nunes had a fielding percentage of 1.000 with six assists and three putouts.
In the first game of the series Nunes went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. In game two, the freshman went 3-for-4 and followed that up with a 3-for-3 performance in the final game. On Sunday she had three runs scored and five RBI with one walk.
Overall this season Nunes sits in second on the team with a .298 batting average. She has amassed 34 hits, seven doubles, six home runs and 19 RBI.
Oregon State welcomes Portland State for a midweek nonconference series at the OSU Softball Stadium on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at noon. This weekend, the Beavers will battle the two-time defending national champions in Oklahoma at home for a two-game series on April 20-21.
