Volleyball Signs Transfer Allison Hughes for 2018
March 06, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball program grew by one Monday when Allison Hughes signed a financial aid agreement, head coach Mark Barnard announced Tuesday. She will arrive in Corvallis this summer, as a transfer from SMU, with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"I am very excited to welcome Allison to Beaver Nation," Barnard said. "She is a highly-accomplished setter who has a year of college experience under her belt. She will be a valuable addition to this team not only because of her experience but also for her exuberance in the way she plays the game. She bonded extremely well with our student-athletes on her visit and made an outstanding impression on the coaching staff. Allison is a natural leader and I look forward to her doing some stellar things over the coming years."
Â
Hughes, a native of Cypress, Texas, played one season at SMU appearing in 13 matches and 32 total sets. She accumulated 127 assists including five matches in which she tallied 15 assists or more. She set a season-best with 23 assists against TCU.
Â
A four-year letterwinner at Cypress Woods High School, Hughes was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Under Armour All-America watch list honoree. She led the district and ranked 10th in the state of Texas with 1,357 assists, averaging 10.4 per set as a senior. She was named to the 2015 AVCA Phenom List as well as the 2014 Preseason Fab 50 and Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association (GHVCA) watch lists. A three-time team captain, she was also an academic all-district honoree four times and helped lead her Willowbrook 18 Gold club team to second at the USAV Junior Nationals.
