Four Beavers Earn All-Academic Honors
March 06, 2018 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Four Oregon State men's basketball student-athletes received Pac-12 All-Academic honors, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.
Â
Gligorije Rakocevic and Stephen Thompson Jr. were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team, Tres Tinkle was selected to the Second Team, and Drew Eubanks earned honorable mention recognition.
Â
All four student-athletes received the same academic honors last season.
Â
Oregon State had four selections this year, while Stanford, Utah and Washington State each had three, Arizona State, UCLA and USC each had two, and California and Oregon each had one.
Â
Oregon State had a record seven student-athletes earn Pac-12 All-Academic recognition last year. The most the Beavers had previously in a year was two in 2000, 2005, 2006, 2011, 2012 and 2014.
Â
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Pac-12 All-Academic regulations define a "starter or significant substitute" as having participated in 50 percent of a team's scheduled contests, except in unusual circumstances, such as injury.
Â
First Team
Rakocevic, a junior from Bijelo Polje, Montenegro, has a 3.70 cumulative GPA in digital communication arts; Thompson Jr., a junior from Los Angeles, Calif., has a 3.53 cumulative GPA in digital communication arts.
Â
Second Team
Tinkle, a redshirt sophomore from Missoula, Mont., has a 3.42 cumulative GPA in speech communication.
Â
Honorable Mention
Eubanks, a junior from Troutdale, Ore., has a 3.12 cumulative GPA in digital communication arts.
Â
Oregon State men's basketball players have now earned conference All-Academic honors 37 times. It's the 15th consecutive year a Beaver student-athlete has received Pac-12 Men's Basketball All-Academic recognition.
