Beavers Take Midweek Matchup With Portland
March 06, 2018 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Trevor Larnach homered and Adley Rutschman drove home the game-winning runs on a double in the seventh as the Oregon State baseball team improved to 13-0 with a 6-3 win over Portland Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Rutschman's double, on a 1-0 pitch in the seventh off reliever Connor Knutson scored Kyler McMahan and Cadyn Grenier, and sent the Beavers to their 22nd consecutive win at Goss Stadium. Oregon State remains one of five teams undefeated.
Larnach opened the game's scoring with a towering three-run home run to right center in the first inning. It marked his sixth round tripper of the 2018 season – in just 13 games – and pushed him into the Pac-12 Conference lead with 23 runs batted in.
Brandon Eisert had a big night on the mound, picking up his second win of the season after 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. The lefty came on in the fifth, did not allow a baserunner, and struck out six.
Jake Mulholland came on in the ninth and picked up his fourth save of the year.
Christian Chamberlain made his first career start and worked four scoreless innings. He allowed one hit and issued one walk while striking out four.
Knutson was charged with the loss for Portland (4-8 overall) after giving up two runs in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three, allowed three hits and struck out six, dropping to 0-1.
Rutschman led the Beavers with two hits.
