Hara Leads Beavers At Desert Mountain

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Kyosuke Hara fired a 2-under 70 in the final round of the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate on Sunday to lead the Oregon State men's golf team.
Hara, a sophomore from Honolulu, Hawai'i, concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament with an even-par 70-76-70--216 to finish in a tie for 11th place. It's his best placing this season and the second best in his career (tie for sixth, Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Fall 2016).
As a team, the Beavers had their best round on the final day, an even-par 288, to finish in seventh place with a 19-over 291-304-288--883 at the par-72, 7,107-yard Desert Mountain Outlaw Course.
"In cold, windy conditions our guys did a great job, especially at the end of the round," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "We struggled on holes five, six and seven yesterday and today they hit great shots straight into the wind.
"The par-3 sixth we played at 2 under and every guy hit the green in regulation on an absolute beast of a hole. It was great to see them stand up there and swing so confidently.
"I really cannot say enough about the consistency Kysouke played with the last two events. I'm really happy for him as he has been working very hard and is finally seeing the result. Our assistant coach, Noah Goldman, has spent a ton of time with him at home on the course and walked every hole of the last two events with Kyosuke. He deserves a bit of the credit."
Freshman Spencer Tibbits recorded a top-15 finish for the fourth time in seven tournaments, this time finishing in a tie for 15th place with a 2-over 69-71-78--218.
Junior Trevor Yu posted his best score in the final round, which helped him move nine spots up the leaderboard into 26th place with an 8-over 74-77-73--224.
Freshman Keaton Gudz also played well on Tuesday, carding a 1-under 71 that vaulted him 17 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 43rd place with a 14-over 78-81-71--230.
Sophomore Shawn Lu finished in a tie for 49th place with a 16-over 78-80-74--232.
Kansas won the team title with an 11-under 853, while Kyle Mueller and Charlie Pilon of Michigan and Dalton Hankamer of San Diego tied for the individual crown with a 4-under 212.
The Beavers have a long break before their next tournament, the Duck Invitational, which will be held on Monday, March 26 and Tuesday, March 27 in Eugene.
