Oregon State Drops Game One of Civil War Series

CORVALLIS – Camryn Ybarra hit her second career home run, but the No. 25 Oregon State University softball team lost game one of the Civil War Series to the visiting No. 2/5 Ducks of Oregon on Thursday evening 4-1.
The Beavers fall to 19-14 overall this season, and 2-4 in Pac-12 action. Meanwhile, Oregon improves to 26-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The game began with both pitchers having their way on the mound. In the first two innings the two combined for nine strikeouts, four of which came from game-one starter Meehra Nelson. Nelson finished the game with six strikeouts.
The Ducks were the first to appear on the scoreboard hitting the first of their two home runs in the top of the third inning. Lindvall sent one over the right field wall just before a sacrifice fly drove in the second run of the inning.
Oregon added two more runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run shot to left center field, now leading 4-0.
The Beavers lone run of the game came in the home-half of the fifth. Freshman Camryn Ybarra hit her second career home run over the right field wall; her second home run in consecutive games.
Oregon State couldn't manage anything in the sixth or seventh innings falling by a final score of 4-1.
Ybarra led the way offensively going 1-for-2 at the plate with one homer and one RBI. Nelson threw 7.0 innings giving up four earned runs with six strikeouts.
