Beavers Take First at Quad Meet in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The No. 13 Oregon State gymnastics team earned a first place finish Saturday evening in a quad meet at Sacramento State with a season-high road score of 196.850. The Beavers recorded wins over No. 17 Arizona State and UC Davis as well as the host Hornets.

OSU hit all 24 routines for the second time this season and recorded the top team scores on all four events with scores of 49.250 on vault, 49.125 on bars, 49.100 on beam and 49.375 on the floor.

McKenna Singley won the all-around for the third consecutive meet with a career-high 39.400.

"I liked the improvements I saw tonight going into postseason," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We had our season-high on the road. There were a lot of good landings and we hit 24-for-24. I like the energy and enthusiasm this team brings to the competition floor. We're excited to use this performance to catapult us into the postseason."

The Beavers opened the meet on the balance beam and found themselves trailing Arizona State following the opening rotation, 49.150-49.100. Maela Lazaro paced the Beavers' beam set with a 9.850 while Singley and Sabrina Gill each added scores of 9.825.

Despite a rough warm-up period in which the Beavers scratched Gill and Destinee Davis from the lineup, Oregon State took the lead in the second stanza posting a team score of 49.375 on the floor exercise. Reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, Kaitlyn Yanish notched a score of 9.925 and Singley and Isis Lowery added a pair of 9.90s.

Oregon State took control of the meet on the vault in the third rotation tallying a season-high 49.250. Shireen Khamedoost (9.825), Singley (9.875) and Yanish (9.850) kicked off the lineup with career-bests and Mary Jacobsen added a season-high 9.875 to lead the way.

OSU finished strong on the bars with a score of 49.125. Jacobsen led the squad with a 9.90 and Halli Briscoe added a 9.850 while Khamedoost and Singley each tallied 9.80 marks.

Oregon State will compete at Pac-12 Championships next Saturday in Tucson, Ariz.
