Beavers Finish First in Session 1 at Pac-12’s

TUCSON, Ariz. – Oregon State finished first in the afternoon session at Saturday's Pac-12 Championships with a score of 196.575. The Beavers finished fifth overall at the championship event.
"I'm proud of what this team did today," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "They went out there and hit all their routines and did their jobs. Scoring was tight, but this is how the scoring will be in the postseason. We know we've got work to do in the next couple weeks as we prepare for regionals."
Oregon State hit all 24 routines for the second consecutive week, and third time this season, and exceeded the 49-point mark on each event for the sixth straight meet.
The Beavers, who were the top seed in the session, began the meet on the vault. Destinee Davis led the Beavers with a score of 9.85, while Mary Jacobsen and Kaitlyn Yanish each added scores of 9.825. With a team score of 49.025 in the opening rotation, OSU trailed in the early going to Arizona State (49.125).
OSU headed to the uneven bars looking to move up. Dani Dessaints notched a 9.90 to lead the team and to take second in the session. McKenna Singley scored a 9.875 and Halli Briscoe added a score of 9.825 to set the pace for the Beavers, who scored 49.200.
Oregon State held a quarter-tenth lead over ASU and Stanford at the midway point with a score of 98.225 moving to the balance beam. The Beavers posted a 49.200 for the second event in a row with Davis leading the way with a 9.875 to tie for the highest score in the session. Singley and Maela Lazaro each posted scores of 9.85 and Alyssa Minyard tied her career-high with a 9.825.
The Beavers had opened their lead entering the final stanza over ASU 147.425-147.325. The floor lineup added a score of 49.150 to their total to secure first in the session. Davis and Isis Lowery notched matching scores of 9.850 while Jacobsen and Sabrina Gill each tallied 9.825s.
Oregon State will return to action Saturday, April 7 at NCAA Regional Championships at a site to be determined. The regional fields will be announced Monday at 1 p.m. PT via NCAA.com. Regional hosts are Alabama, Minnesota, NC State, Ohio State, Penn State and Utah.
Oregon State Athletics and the gymnastics program will host a Selection Show Watch Party Monday in the Loge Level of Reser Stadium. The public is invited to join the Beaver gymnasts as they await their postseason fate with doors opening at 12:30 p.m.
