PEORIA, Ariz. – The Oregon State women's golf team shattered a three-round school record at the Westbrook Spring Invitational on Monday.

The Beavers concluded the two-day, 54-hole event with a 14-under 280-288-282--850 to finish in fifth place and break a record they set earlier this season.

The previous mark was a 6-under 858 at the Ron Moore Invitational in Highlands Ranch, Colo., this past October. Oregon State had never finished a three-round tournament under par and has now done it twice this season.

Oregon State finished in fifth place against a competitive 15-team field and ahead of Pac-12 rivals Washington State (10th place) and Oregon (12th place).

Oklahoma won the team title with a 25-under 839 at the par-72, 6,252-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club Vistas Course. Ohio State (24-under 840), Nebraska (21-under 843) and Wisconsin (20-under 844) were the other teams to finish ahead Oregon State.

"It's good to see the hard work pay off," Oregon State head coach Dawn Shockley said. "We have made practice very challenging this past month and they continue to see the opportunities in these challenges and learn where they can improve and grow.

"Opening the spring season with another school record is rewarding for both players and coaches. They remained patient for 54 holes and played for each other. We will use this momentum as we head into the peak of our season and continue to compete and grow."

Senior Susie Cavanagh and freshman Ellie Slama both paced the Beavers, finishing in a tie for 13th place with a 4-under 212. Cavanagh had rounds of 70-70-72 and Slama got better each round with scores of 72-71-69.

The 4-under 212 is a career best for Cavanagh, bettering the 1-under 215 she shot last spring at the NCAA Regionals. Slama has finished under par in seven of her last 10 rounds.

Olivia Benzin notched a top-25 finish for the third time in her junior campaign, finishing in a tie for 24th place with a 2-under 69-75-70--214. It's the fourth time she's finished a three-round event in red figures.

Sophomore Nicole Schroeder also improved each round, carding a 2-over 75-72-71--218 for a tie for 42nd place.

Freshman Amanda Minni got valuable experience in her first collegiate tournament, finishing in a tie for 63rd place with a 7-over 69-77-77--223.

The Beavers return to action on Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6 at the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate in Fairfax, Calif.
