Senior becomes the first player in OSU history to win the award in back-to-back weeks
CORVALLIS – Senior Marie Gulich became the first player in Oregon State history to claim Pac-12 Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks Monday, as the conference office announced the weekly award.
Â
Gulich highlighted her week with a 36-point showing at Arizona State on Sunday, in which she shot a blistering 16-for-18 from the floor. The senior exploded in the second half, hitting all 13 of her field goal attempts to tally 30 points in the final 20 minutes of the contest. Gulich also went for 20 points and 12 rebounds Friday evening at Arizona.
Â
The Cologne, Germany native has proven herself as one of the top players in the country this season, earning a spot on the Naismith Trophy Late Season Watch List. Gulich is shooting 66.1 percent from the floor this season, and is averaging 17.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest. She is currently riding a four-game streak of 20+ point performances.
Â
While no single Oregon State player had been tabbed Pac-12 Player of the Week in consecutive weeks prior to Gulich, the Beavers have had teammates earn the honor in straight weeks four times. Most recently Ruth Hamblin and Jamie Weisner took the award on Jan. 19 and Jan. 26 2015, respectively.
Â
As a team, the Beavers finished the regular season with a record of 23-6, and a Pac-12 mark of 14-4. Oregon State has moved up to No. 10 in Monday's Associated Press poll.
Â
Oregon State will play its quarterfinal game of the Pac-12 Tournament on Friday in Seattle, Wash against the winner of Arizona vs. Arizona State.
